My disdain for CNBC and the pundits on it has prevented me from making millions.
I discovered this sad truth earlier today, when some talking head on the channel let slip the secret that’s been eluding me – and I am sure, many others like me – for years. “The trick to making money in the stock market” he revealed, “is to buy stocks cheap.”
No shit, Sherlock.

How dare you not trust CNBC – Ch*tiyon Ne Banaya Ch*tiya? 😉
Praying to the Quirky God I recently started believing in the existence of, that my this comment passes through the Quirky censor! 😀

haha 😛
good one mate! hope they give us more tips like this in the future 😛
reminds me of one post-cricket match review which was going on….. one “expert” commentator said, “Team A batted, fielded and bowled better than Team B”, when asked why Team A won!

Did he whisper it into the screen like he was divulging a great secret?

QI:
Happened to watch, for a few minutes, a show on NDTV Profit that features someone called Monika Halan. A young man was invited on the show, and his question was: How do I invest wisely for the future? The two women (the anchor and Ms. Halan) gave him 2 suggestions: 1. Marry a woman who’s working; 2. Ask your boss for a raise. And then launched into a spiel about how today’s youngsters have to learn to ask for the sky. Stunned I was. Perhaps, as you nicely impugn, the people on these shows are just too wise for the layperson!

The trick to making money on the stock market is to hope that there is a bigger fool who will buy after you do and raise the price (or sell after you if you’re shorting).
Nice
😀

Quirky, they didnt tell the entire story. You for sure need to buy cheap.
But its a waste if you dont sell high.

@Pal: Ha ha…I’m still waiting for him to explain the how and when of it!
@Bones: 🙂 Go ahead, make your millions now!
@Banno: Let’s all make up for lost time now that we know the secret
@PA: Welcome and thanks. Why are you calling such a deep revelation a trick? 🙂
@Ketan: Haha…I am in total agreement with the thoughts expressed in the last two words…that is what happens to us….but you underestimate the people on that channel by honouring them with the first word….they’re really smart people who make the money we lose!
@OG: Good to see you back…I shall definitely share more such pearls of wisdom, as and when the gods of the stock market enlighten me. LOL on the ‘expert’ commentator. Must be the same guy!
@Desiderata: Such profound revelations are made in unguarded moments….I am sure he must have been kicking himself afterwards!
September 30, 2010 at 12:56 pm
@SS: Good to see you back. Yes, I think we can safely assume that our weak intellects cannot grasp the fundamental truths that are clear (as mud?) to these experts!
@Rakesh: Nope…and that’s probably because magicians never tell!
@Vee: 🙂 Don’t even get me started on the CWG. Just got back from Delhi….the city’s a bloody disaster zone….I pity the people who live there. It’s going to be a tough 15 days or so.
@Anirban: Thanks. But allow me to say: “Guru, guru….master….you have shown me the light!” 🙂 That was the second part of the secret the guy forgot to reveal!
@AD Bhai: I wonder why he forgot to share that important bit. But dhanya ho (no pun intended) ki aap bhi is sabha main upasthit hain….now I have all the information I need to rake in my millions! 🙂
@Liju: I now really regret not watching CNBC…perhaps I could have been in India’s Billionaire list…number 70 – QI! 🙂

Hello, friend. I hope all is well. I’ve been buying high and selling low for years. I’m now bankrupt, but my broker sends me a fruit basket every Christmas.

The trick is in making others believe you got a bargain on the shit.

Hey QI –
That quote reminds me of an interview I saw just prior to a college or professional basketball game a few years ago. The coach of one of the teams was being interviewed on the court, with the players from both teams warming up for the game. Although not verbatim, the interview went pretty much like this:
Announcer: Hi, Coach, thanks for joining us today.
Coach: My pleasure.
Announcer: So, Coach, what does your team need to do to win this game today?
Coach: Basically, we need to score more points than the other team.
Announcer: (Stunned silence).
