New Delhi and Swarg, Aug 05: In a scathing indictment of temporal and spiritual politics alike, a two-judge bench of the Supreme Court expressed its anguish over the state of affairs in India.
Indian politicians, now immune to such pronouncements, had no comments.
There was no response from God’s office and residence to an email asking for comments on the observations. Later in the day, however, God’s official spokesperson addressed a thinly-attended press conference (most press-people were attending a Q&A with Katrina Kaif).
When asked for God’s reactions to the Apex Court’s observation that “Even God will not be able to save this country. In India even if God comes down he cannot change our country. Our country’s character has gone. We are helpless”, the spokesperson had this terse reply to offer: “God is in complete agreement with the honourable judges and has nothing further to say in this matter.”
The spokesperson also declined to comment on who God thought was India’s No. 1 heroine.
Further details are awaited.

Profoundly sad and profoundly funny (up there in my book with ‘woman killed by falling tombstone’)…

Yup, read that in the paper this morning.
No wonder these judges can’t get things done. It took them so long to realize this fact which the average Indian has known for so long. (I suppose the average Indian communicates with God more often).
For some reason, reading this reminded me of a couple of dialogues from the movie “Blood Diamond”…
One is:
“T.I.A – This Is Africa.”
– The catch-all for it is what it is. We have T.I.I.
The other is a bit more dramatic, but it applies to us, I think:
“Sometimes I wonder if God will ever forgive us for what we’ve done to each other…Then I look around and I realize… God left this place a long time ago.”

Thats a hilariously sad account!
Sigh! Sigh! Sigh! Sigh!

I wanted to lol but such is the sorry state that we can’t laugh also.
Am glad that atleast judiciary has its eyes opened, though that can not be said in all cases. Just read the news that SC has suspended some tribunal’s order lifting the ban on SIMI….

Which God was the SC speaking about? The BJP, Congress or the Commie (China) one?

Even God has enough sense to not try and change what cannot be.
Sad that our country has reached such a low.
Despite God’s assent I think there still might be hope.

They say we have a million gods in India may be they were talking abt the politicians!

@Shefaly – I am a firm believer in the curative powers of laughter! But it does seem to be getting increasingly difficult to keep one’s sense of humour….
@Vaibhav – strangely enough, I thought of the “God left this place a long time ago” line while writing this post as well…..seemed very appropriate!
@Mystiquedew – 🙂 trumps 😦 all the time!
@S – laugh, and it won’t hurt so much…;-)
@Liju – a very interesting question…..:-)
@Che – hope is always good!
@Balu – you know, the state we’re in, it’s going to take more than the combined efforts of a million of them to change things for the better!:-)

@ QI:
Your point reminds me of the truck-driving scene in The Dark Knight, where the Joker is trying to get his hands on DA Dent. The truck he is driving says on the side: Slaughter is the best medicine…
(I told you I had a morbid sense of humour…)

ROFL…
If it weren’t for your quirky sense of humor, this could’ve been quite a serious issue! 😀

i believe there was a response from God. He said: “Why should I help them anyway? People get the governments they deserve.”
August 12, 2008 at 10:59 am
@Shefaly – I thought that was the best line in the film….
@Nikhil – dude, believe me when I say it does hurt a lot less when you laugh!:-)
@Dez – welcome to my blog, and thanks for the comment. I agree with you – we, ourselves, are to blame for this sorry state of affairs.

It is nice to know horrible summer “Blockbusters” are not just an american problem.

@mylesfromnowhere – we probably beat the Americans at it…..

@Nova – thanks… 🙂

I have to second mylesfromnowhere’s comment. Hailing from the country that gave you Keanu Reeves, Steven Seagal, and Friday The 13th: Part…….We Lost Count, I have to say that bad cinema is apparently a universal phenomenon.
Quirky, the more I read your blog, the more I wonder if India isn’t just another America (or vice versa — I don’t want to offend any nationalistic feelings).
I added you to my blogroll; I hope you don’t mind.

Judges at the time of passing that judgement were definitely agnostics! They just wanted to see if by their provocation, if existent, God would come down on Earth! 😉 I think by now they must be positive atheists! 😛 Curiously, I didn’t find any mention of your religious beliefs on your blog despite being anonymous! Just an observation, not fishing for an answer.
Humorous post! And no it didn’t even pain me. I guess, I’m past all that. That’s why you so rarely see my dealing with governance in India on my blog. Cynicism is even better than laughter at shielding us from such pains. But of course, they’re usually complementary! TC.
