QI, as you described the ineptitude of your government, I could have sworn you were discussing my own. I often write about the shortcomings of our political system in the USA where our politicians seem to be nothing more than bought-and-paid-for puppets. I find myself voting for who scares me the least. I've enjoyed perusing your blog and appreciate your visit to my site.

Liju, your assessment is spot on. We get the government we deserve. We seem to be more concerned with issues of language, caste and religion to be bothered about issues like citizen safety and security, healthcare and education. It's something I touched upon in my post, Of Fragmented Politics and Money Laundering.

Sadly for India, the immeasurable value of universal adult suffrage has been squandered by us, and manipulated and distorted by those who rule us.

Anbumani Ramadoss (another joker) is too concerned with SRK and Amitabh smoking, but is not concerned with the fact that 99% of the govt hospitals today are rotting, the healthcare system is screwed up, our kids die of malnutrition 60 years after freedom, women have no proper toilet facilities, mothers die during child birth etc etc...

But the joker got some other priorities in his life. Whose mistake is it? I believe, we are responsible for electing such idiots to power. You get the government you deserve.
